Located near Morell, Kings County, Laura offers enriching music education programs and services to students of all ages and levels including:

With more than 20 years of combined teaching and performance experience, Laura is a passionate and committed music educator, working with children and parents to instill a love of music and music learning. Laura is a Registered Music Teacher (RMT) and serves as the newest Council Member of the PEI Registered Music Teacher Association, having just moved to the Island from Toronto in May 2019. Prior to moving to PEI, Laura was the director and founder of My Musical Upbringing, a flourishing private music studio in Toronto specializing in Early Childhood Music Education.
In addition to offering professional piano instruction, Laura’s specialty and passion is Dalcroze Eurhythmics — a way of working with, and learning about music through the body. She was the past-president of Dalcroze Canada and currently serves as the organization’s Training Chair. This unique perspective on musical learning is integrated in all aspects of Laura’s work, whether teaching private piano students, leading baby/toddler music classes, or helping music professionals deepen their musicianship skills.
Laura has a Certificate in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from the Longy School of Music of Bard College (Cambridge, MA), and is currently completing overseas studies in the Dalcroze License, which is a credential for teacher-training. Laura also holds an ARCT in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) as well as an Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Music Education, a joint program between the RCM and Ryerson University. She has also completed pedagogy studies in Kodály and Orff.
In addition to her musical training, Laura holds an Honours Bachelor Degree in Communications (University of Ottawa) and a Master of Business Administration (York University). These combined skills and qualifications have established Laura as both an accomplished music educator and a recognized arts administrator.
IMPORTANT UPDATE – Renew PEI Operational Plan for Laura Ono Music Studio
In compliance with protocols set by the PEI Chief Public Health Office (CPHO), the studio has an Operational Plan in place to ensure the health and safety of both the student and the teacher.
Starting June 15, 2020, in-person lessons will resume. Social distancing measures will be in place, along with appropriate hand hygiene and cleaning/disinfecting of shared areas and surfaces.
While in-person classes are the preferred method of instruction, online lessons continue to be a viable option. In fact, a mix of in-person and online lessons is recommended – this way we can seamlessly adjust if the CPHO suspends in-door gatherings in the future.
